Kate's Special 20th Birthday
Kate's 20th birthday was celebrated the same way many of her birthdays have been celebrated - at the ballpark, watching her brother, Will. (Though one year she was at Wrigley Field watching the Sox beat the Cubs, and another year she was in St. Paul, where she and Will led the crowd in the singing of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the 7th Inning Stretch.) In addition to marking the end of her teen years, this birthday was extra special. Will promised her he would set the school record for career wins. He did it in grand style, pitching a 1-hit shutout for his 21st career victory. The happiest person in the stands that night was Kate. Everyone knew it was her birthday, and everyone knew what Will's promise meant to her. Will pitched once more after this, picking up his 22nd win in the first game of district play. |
