Patriotic Parade of Quilts
Over the years I have designed and made a number of patriotic-themed quilts. (Of course a lot of my star designs can be turned into patriotic quilts with the appropriate choice of colors.) I thought I would gather a selection of some of the best quilts in one place. (The photos aren't to scale with one another.)
Cue the band. Let the parade begin!
This is Main Street Log Cabin from Extraordinary Log Cabin Quilts. My husband suggested it would make a great patriotic quilt. He was right.
This is America, the Beautiful from Piece 'n' Play Quilts. It was designed by my then 10-year-old son, Will Bennett, as a response to the attacks of September 11. It's still the quilt on his bed.
Steve's Star is also from Piece 'n' Play Quilts. It was designed by my husband, Steve Bennett. His idea was to take a 5-pointed star and split it in half diagonally. This is the only quilt I've ever presented with optional paper piecing.
This is Summer Holiday from Patchwork Among Friends. One of things I was having fun with in that book was making rings, in this case interlocking stars.
This is American Dream from Stellar Quilts. It's simple but effective.
This is Old Glory from my long-out-of-print book, Yes You Can! Make Stunning Quilts From Simple Patterns. The pattern was also on the Stars & Sets CD from Electric Quilt Company.
This is Marching Band from my long-out-of-print book, Scraps, Blocks & Quilts.
This is Long May She Wave from my long-out-of-print book, Pieced Borders. When you squint at it, it gives the impression of a flag waving proudly in the breeze.
This is a version of Stars and Stripes Forever made by Doris Coffey. The pattern was in my long-out-of-print book, Knockout Blocks and Sampler Quilts. Doris used the quilt as a raffle quilt for the American Legion Auxiliary. It raised $1100! I hope some day to get Knockout Blocks added to my e-books site. You can go to the site and sign up for email updates as new books and patterns become available.
